Birthday!

June 23,2004

Nathan was born at 3:09 a.m. He weighed 615 grams (roughly around 1 pound 4 ounces). He was 29.5cm (11.6 inches). His eyes were still fused shut. He was 24 weeks and 3 days gestational.

APGAR Scores

5 at 1 minute and 6 at 5 minutes. He required bag and mask resuscitation, was given surfactant and was intubated in the nursery.

Diagnoses that were deemed *on going and active* at the time of Nathan's Discharge on September 08, 2004

Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia onset 6-23-04 received the medications albuterol, fentanyl, furosemide, lasix, chlorothiazide, spironolactone, and surfactant during NICU stay. Was ventilated several times during his stay
Patent Formen Ovale tiny pfo in his left -to-right flow ( this resolved by December 04)
Anemia of Prematurity he had several blood and platelet transfusions for this put on iron enriched formula when discharged
Elevated Liver Enzymes Had blood work performed once a month to watch these levels.... (resolved by Jan 05)
Hypothyroidism received daily doses of synthroid while in the NICU and until his 2nd birthday
Retinopathy of Prematurity received weekly visits to the Dean McGee Eye Institute, laser surgery on his left eye in October 2004, laser surgery on his right eye in November 2004. He got glasses in June 2006

Thankfully Nathan required no surgeries while in the NICU. He had his laser surgeries after coming home, and in May 2005 he had surgery for bilateral hernia's, removal of a fluid sac, undescended testicle and got circumcised all at once!
